Subsurface Resource Consulting (SRC) is a specialist oil & gas consultancy

SRC is a specialist upstream oil and gas consultancy with international and UKCS project experience, and provides a wide range of technical geoscience, engineering and advisory services to customers including oil companies, service companies and NOCs.

Recent oil and gas exploration has successfully targeted deepwater basins located on or extending onto oceanic crust, with major discoveries in the Orange Basin (Namibia) by Shell, TotalEnergies, and Galp since 2022. These frontier areas are redefining hydrocarbon potential in ultra-deepwater, with significant, low-cost discoveries also emerging in the Gulf of Guinea where, for example, the Jaca-1 well has confirmed a working, light-oil system on purely oceanic crust.

Significant exploration efforts are focusing on the entire South Atlantic margin, including the whole of west Africa and the conjugate margins of South America, looking for similar oceanic-crust, oil-rich systems. SRC has investigated the potential for exploration above oceanic crust since 2013 (see Multi-Client projects).

SRC has formed and actively participates in the Natural Hydrogen Study Group (NHSG) to research all aspects of the occurrence and exploration for Natural (“Gold” or “White”) Hydrogen in a variety of geological settings, including passive margins, intracratonic settings, convergent margins and ophiolites. A dedicated consultancy company, Natural Hydrogen Consultants Limited, trading as NHSG, has been established to provide technical and advisory services relating to natural hydrogen exploration and development.

NHSG’s current research directions include the development of a series of predictive models for the generation of natural hydrogen, largely through the process of serpentinization.
