This report documents a field-based study of the petroleum potential of deep water deposits offshore Morocco, based on the unique small Mesozoic sedimentary outcrop of west coast Fuerteventura (Canary Islands). The cliff and near-coastal outcrops provide a view of distal pelagic sedimentation on the newly formed oceanic crust. Samples of this ‘Basal Complex’ of Fuerteventura were analysed for: source rock geochemistry, apatite and zircon fission track analysis (AFTA, ZFTA), thin section petrography and screening biostratigraphy.
